Aldnoah Zero アルドノア・ゼロ (Season 1)

A anime that’s so superb that it’s already topped my Favorite Anime list. :) The story is set on earth in the year 2014 (Yes, an alternate 2014 of course) where the earth is recovering from an encounter with an alien nation some 15 years earlier.

The crew on Apollo 17 mission to Mars discovered a Hyper Gate, the technology allowed humans to colonize and develop Mars. This lead to the appearance of the Vers Empire which claimed ownership of the Martian relics and Aldnoah, their ancient technology and this lead a war that started in 1999 that was declared by Vers Empire, resulting in a fierce conflict between humans of earth and Vers Empire on the moon’s surface that eventually lead to the Hyper Gate’s self-destruction that took out part of the moon. The devastation of the moon caused much catastrophe on earth from meteor, gravity changes and other unnaturally natured natural disasters!

Ok so we’ve been through that lengthy paragraph above (oh yes, I wrote the whole damn thing!) but that’s just the backdrop of the series. The excitement of this series begins once a misunderstanding occurs between the Vers Empire and earth, resulting in a full-scale assault from the Vers Empire whose technology made humans look primitive.

In 1972, the Apollo 17 mission found a hypergate to Mars on the surface of the moon. Upon landing, astronauts discovered an enchanted utility later referred to as “Aldnoah,” giving the astronauts a status of superiority. Soon, many humans have relocated to Mars, and have adapted to the name “Martians.” After Princess Asseylum, a royal Martian princess, descends onto Earth in an attempt to create a treaty between both planets, a war breaks out between Earth and Mars, and Martian soldiers begin to descend from the sky, riding steel giants, intent on exterminating humanity.

What do I think of the show?

Storyline : Each episode ends with a cliff-hanger and each episode is a no-nonsense progress of the story. Character development is great because there’s little to no time spent on fillers or crappy conversations. Every scene adds to the story, not forgetting plot twists and interesting combat tactics.

Animation : Awesome stuff, especially the choice of camera angles for the composition and not forgetting stuff like camera shake to dramatize the scenes which of course is expected when it comes to action-based anime.

Soundtrack : Awesome stuff too, the tracks were not only memorable but adds so much excitement to the show, especially for intense scenes.

Show I watch this show? : Oh yes, this show is highly recommended in my book even if you’re not a Mecha person. :D Awesome stuff is so awesome that you’ll be left to continue the adventure in Season 2.
